Jewellery Care Guide – How to Clean & Store Your Carryallco Jewellery
Jewellery Care Guide
How to clean, wear, and store your Carryallco jewellery so it lasts for years.
18K Gold PVD Jewellery Care
Carryallco's 18K gold PVD jewellery is significantly more durable than standard gold-plated jewellery — the PVD bonding process creates a gold layer 3–5x thicker that resists water, sweat, and daily contact. That said, a little care goes a long way in keeping it looking its best for years.
Daily Wear — What's Safe
- Wearing in rain, light water exposure, and humidity
- Wearing during workouts and light sweating
- Applying moisturiser — let it absorb before putting jewellery on
- Wearing to sleep (for lightweight pieces)
- Cleaning with a soft damp cloth or mild soap and water
What to Avoid
- Chlorinated swimming pools and hot tubs — chlorine is corrosive even to PVD gold
- Salt water (ocean swimming) for extended periods
- Direct contact with perfume, hairspray, or harsh cosmetics — apply these first, let them dry, then wear your jewellery
- Abrasive cloths, toothpaste, or chemical jewellery cleaners
- Ultrasonic cleaners
- Storing in humid bathrooms — moisture accelerates oxidation over time
How to Clean Your PVD Gold Jewellery
- Dampen a soft lint-free cloth with warm water.
- Add a tiny drop of mild dish soap if needed.
- Gently wipe the jewellery — do not scrub.
- Rinse lightly with clean water.
- Pat dry immediately with a soft cloth. Do not leave wet.
Clean your jewellery every 2–4 weeks with regular wear, or whenever it looks dull.
Storage
Store each piece separately in the soft pouch it came in, or in individual compartments in a jewellery box. This prevents pieces from scratching each other. Keep away from direct sunlight and humidity.
925 Sterling Silver Jewellery Care
Sterling silver naturally tarnishes over time when exposed to air and moisture — this is a chemical reaction with sulphur compounds in the environment. It is normal and reversible.
What's Safe
- Wearing regularly — the natural oils in your skin actually help maintain silver's shine
- Light water exposure
- Cleaning with a silver polishing cloth
What to Avoid
- Swimming pools, ocean water, and hot tubs
- Perfumes, hairsprays, and lotions directly on the silver
- Leaving in open air for long periods — store in a sealed pouch
- Rubber bands and certain plastics — these accelerate tarnishing
How to Remove Tarnish
- Use a soft silver polishing cloth — buff gently in one direction.
- For heavier tarnish: mix mild dish soap with warm water, soak 5 minutes, brush gently, rinse, pat dry.
- Dry completely before storing.
American Diamond (CZ) Jewellery Care
American diamond (cubic zirconia) stones are durable but can lose their sparkle if they attract oils and residue. Regular cleaning keeps them looking brilliant.
Cleaning
- Mix warm water with a drop of mild dish soap.
- Use a soft toothbrush to gently clean around the stones.
- Rinse with clean water and pat dry with a soft cloth.
General Care Tips for All Jewellery
- Put jewellery on last — after perfume, lotion, and hairspray.
- Take it off first — before washing dishes, swimming, or applying skincare.
- Clean regularly — a quick wipe after wearing removes sweat and residue before it builds up.
- Store separately — jewellery pieces scratch each other. Use the pouch or individual compartments.
- Avoid extreme heat — do not leave jewellery in a hot car or direct sunlight for extended periods.
